Black Dog ROCKS!

Black Dog web design

As a fan of all things rock, being asked to design a website for a merchandise store who specialise in apparel and accessories relating to metal, punk, ska and rock ‘n roll music was a fantastic opportunity for me.

I was able to really get a grip on the raw graphic style that was required, and thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with contrasting textures.

Faith & Neal

faith-&-neal

My sister Faith will be marrying Neal this year and was very excited about briefing me to design her invitations and other wedding stationery. They will be married in a very rural location, and I felt the design needed to be very simple, but that there should be organic/natural influences to the design. Designs involving stylised trees were drawn up but seemed to fussy, and a leaf motif was born as a simple graphic that could be repeated throughout the designs. A5 invites were printed, and will be sent out along with A4 information sheets and DL sized RSVP slips.

Light out of Darkness

LOD1

A small design project, flyers and posters for a Christian arts presentation/production to be held at the University of Plymouth this summer. The design features bold typography over a moody, stormy sky painted by Anita Collier (www.anitacollier.co.uk), with light bursting out from behind the clouds.

Before the Roars

Cardiff based punk band Solutions released their new album Before the Roars in December 2009 and I was asked to design album artwork for the initial digital release, as well as for the physical CD release for early 2010.

The concept of the album revolved around a fictional ‘home-made superhero’, someone always out to try and help people but who always seems to have his efforts thrown back in his face. Lyrics and concepts from various songs on the album were an inspiration to the layout, and the band were very happy with the final artwork.

Debt Advice Charity Branding

Stemming from the Crowded House church in Sheffield, Graceworks is a community project with charity status, aiming to provide for local people in need. Initially focussing on providing free debt advice (with training and backing from external organisations), other directions may be offered in the future, including justice and mediation services.

I was asked to design a logo for the charity, but due to the fact other services (not necessarily financial ones) might be offered in the future, I was asked to ensure the logo wasn’t debt specific.

The result focusses on community and positivity, with the letter ‘g’ still hinted at in the negative space.

Personal Rebranding

artboyart_new
business-cards1

We have lift off! Finally, after weeks of hard work in tandem with Steve at Spaniq, Artboyart v3 is live!

As part of a personal brand relaunch, I’ve completely redesigned the layout and interface of my personal portfolio website, with the key new feature being a selected work menu across the top of the home page. Hopefully it’ll now be easier to browse through the best work on my site, and download detailed case studies, whilst still remaining up to date with the latest work (thumbnails now contained within the right hand column of the homepage). The blog is still there, as well as links to my profile on external sites such as Behance, LinkedIn and Facebook.

And to mark the big relaunch, there is a selection of limited edition free desktop wallpapers ready for you to download in a range of screen sizes! Don’t forget to go and download your favourite from the link on the homepage!

The site’s new look is carried across into new business stationery, in particular, headed paper, invoices and my smart new business cards complete with a spot uv varnish logo on one side. Here’s to creating a high impact first impression!

Wedding Invitations

m&s1

When Matt & Sally get married, it won’t just be a wedding, it’ll be an M&S wedding! An emailable pdf invite was produced, featuring a graphic made up of various elements that will remind guests of the couple, in bright colours reminiscent of their recent ’round the world’ trip.

I was approached by the Bereavement Counselling Service in the South West to design a logo and stationery. With a brief that suggested values such as ‘professional but intimate’, ‘compassionate’ and ‘supportive’, I produced an identity and applied this to stationery, signage and printed leaflets.
